Letter from March 11, 2008

Hey family,

I love you guys! Thank you so much for all your letters and packages! I loved getting them. I especially loved the cottage cheese & chips! That was so great & it was perfect because it came on Friday. Every Friday night we have gym last so all the girls in the zone get together & eat food and talk as soon as gym gets over. It’s only for about 30 minutes, but we have fun. The branch pres. Wife always drops by too. Anyway, Fridays are the only nights I have to really enjoy a snack like that. And believe me, I enjoyed it! I was so excited, what a great idea! Thank you! Oh, and my companions really loved getting the “Three Musketeers.” We got a picture so I’ll try to send a copy to you soon. Oh and I love the “Swiss Cake Rolls! My favorite!
So we had a fireside on Sunday and the guy spoke went to Japan on his mission. Same mission as Dad. I am not even going to attempt to spell it. Anyway, his name, I think, was Richard I. Heaton. That would have been cool if you had been companions, but I think he’s just a little bit older than you. He has some kind of administrative job at the MTC.
Well, the MTC is good. I just love my teacher Hermano Martinez, He is such a good teacher. He’s only been home for like 7 months and already he’s teaching us cooler things from the scriptures than some of my institute teachers. The other day we started talking about the war in Heaven. He asked us how it was fought. Someone said, “With words.” He asked for more suggestions and nobody really knew what he was looking for. So we turned to a scripture in Revelations 11, I think. It says we won through the blood of the Lamb and by our testimonies. We won with our testimonies! We also looked up the scripture where Nephi says to his brothers, “You were past feeling that you could not feel his words.”. He just showed us how powerful our words and testimonies are. It was the neatest lesson.
Right now we are learning lesson 1 in Spanish. We’ve been giving it a lot in English. We are trying to teach in a way that will help the investigator know why it is so important: to give them a reason to change. It’s hard to put that into words, but we’ll get it. I think part of the problem is no body wants to talk about Christ. They are so focused on the restoration and baptism that they miss the reason why those things are important. We have to make sure the people understand the Book of Mormon and the restoration with the first vision, but if you ask me, those things don’t mean a thing without the Savior. So I’m trying to teach my companions that. I still think we need to talk about the Book of Mormon and the restoration. We don’t need to take away from those subjects, but our purpose is to bring others to Christ. So I think we need to add Him in more. He should be more than just mentioned in our lessons.
Anyway, I hope that didn’t sound negative. The MTC is great! I really like it here. Sometimes the afternoons get long, but I love it anyway. My knee started hurting again so I haven’t done much for gym. I do some crunches and sit-ups and maybe some push-ups. I think I need some more work out ideas. I used to run around the track, but that’s what killed my knee, so I can’t do it anymore. I took Advil & started doing that knee strengthening thing that Dad told me to do & my knee feels fine again, I just don’t want to re-hurt it before I get to the field & start walking on it everyday. I hope that doesn’t make you worry about me, I’m completely fine; just being cautious. I really actually enjoy gym time. It’s good thinking time.
So I’m in the laundry room right now. I have so many people to write today. Patti Nielsen wrote me. Malinda, Karli, Tammy, Chris Page, Cindy, Kirk & Rolene Thompson. She is so cute. She sent me 2 missionary comics, & a talk & a sweet letter. I loved it. Oh, and $2.00 for ice cream. How sweet is that? So yeah, I have a lot of people who love me. It feels so good. I’m so lucky.
Well, somehow I just went blank. I can’t remember anything cool that happened this week. It’s all pretty much the same thing every day. When we called people to ask if they got their DVDs or Books of Mormon they ordered it freaked me out! I hated it! Probably more because of the computer though. I could not figure it out and I kept having to make people wait until I could get to the next part of the computer program. It was so frustrating, but this week we are taking calls from people rather than calling them and I don’t think the computer is as tricky for that. So I’m nervous, but I think it will be a good experience. Well, I’d better let you go. I am running out of time. I love you guys so much. Thanks so much for being so supportive. I love it here! The spirit is a constant strength. I love it! Well, I love you! I can’t wait to get your letters Oh & by the way, I don’t think the other 3 packages were late. I think they did get here the same day you sent them. The first was just a tender mercy. So don’t worry about finding a new place to send packages from. I love you so much! Thanks again for everything. I couldn’t ask for a better family! You’re the best!

Sorry, I almost forgot, No visa yet, but I am glad. I like this MTC and don’t worry, I doubt I’ll be leaving during your cruise. If I do that’s okay, but I’m thinking it won’t be till after you get home. I’m glad because I’m attached to my district, my teachers and the devotionals. I love them!
By the way Madi, I can’t believe you got frost bite!!! What the heck! I want a sister with two feet when I get home. No more snowy hikes! Oh, I’m supposed to get after you for not writing Jordan…and I saw Taylor Madsen today.
I put my Spanish Book of Mormon on my pillow each day. I usually don’t have time to read from it at night because that’s when I shower and write in my journal, but I put it there anyway & I think of you reading yours. 2 Nephi 25:26 is what I want on my plaque. Thanks so much!
Mom, I love the quotes you keep sending me. You know me well. And thanks for the missionary news letter. It was fun to read. Can you send me Nana and Papas address? Thanks.
